NBA star, Grant Hill, played 18 seasons in the NBA. Grant made 7 all-star appearances, and won the “Rookie of the Year” award in the 1994-95 season. Now, 42 year old Grant has added NBA owner to his list of accomplishments.
Hill has recently been named part owner of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team. Hill along with a group of investors purchased the team for $850 million dollars. The investment group that purchased the team with Hill includes: Antony Ressler, Richard Schnall, Sara Blakely, and Jesse Itzler. Ressler and Schnall are private equity investors; while Blakely is the founder of Spanx. Itzler is married to Blakely, and is also the co-founder of Marquis Jets.
The Atlanta Hawks have been for sale since last year when their majority owner, Bruce Levenson found himself in some pretty hot water. The team was undergoing an internal investigation of their general manager, Danny Ferry. Allegedly, Ferry made racially and derogatory comments regarding free agent Loul Deng during a conference call. During the investigation of Ferry, Levenson admitted to sending internal emails that were racially insensitive. Hill along with his investors purchased Levenson’s ownership of the team.
