The Success Of Tyler Perry’s ‘Boo! A Madea Halloween’ Has Landed Him Two New Movie Deals

I think it’s safe to say that Tyler Perry is officially having the best week ever. He may even be having the best year ever! Tyler Perry’s latest movie, “Boo! A Madea Halloween”, was received with open arms at the box office. After being released for only two weeks, the movie brought in a grand total of $56.4 million dollars. This huge success has now landed Tyler with two new movie deals with Lionsgate. Jon Feltheimer, a Lionsgate CEO, announced that the studio will produce two more Tyler Perry films and one will be a continuation of the Madea franchise. According to Feltheimer,

“While the quarter included two films that we hoped would do better, we were very pleased with Madea’s Halloween.”

Feltheimer went on to say that he believed in Tyler Perry’s brand and felt that his comedies were starting to cross over into other demographics.

Tyler’s first film with Lionsgate was “Diary Of A Mad Black Woman” which was released eleven years ago. Over the years, Lionsgate and Perry have come together to produce and create nineteen movies; which many of them have been part of the Madea franchise.

Lionsgate is constantly in search of possible franchises.

The last box office hits that turned into successful franchises for the studio were “The Hunger Games” and “Now You See Me”. Feltheimer, spoke about Lionsgate’s films playing internationally,

“The bigger movies potentially have more potential, but you never know where your next movie is going to come from. A franchise doesn’t have to be a huge Marvel property. It doesn’t need to be for us a Hunger Games or …a Marvel property to become a franchise.”

Although the Madea franchise is not quite on that level of “The Hunger Games”, it has the potential to be just as profitable.
